"The Bigamist" is a 1953 drama film directed by and starring Ida Lupino, alongside Edmond O'Brien and Joan Fontaine.

The story follows Harry Graham (Edmond O'Brien), a traveling salesman who leads a double life. Harry is married to Eve (Joan Fontaine), a successful and career-focused woman in San Francisco. Despite their outwardly stable marriage, Harry feels neglected and lonely due to Eve's career ambitions and her inability to have children.

While on a business trip to Los Angeles, Harry meets and falls in love with Phyllis Martin (Ida Lupino), a warm and understanding waitress. Over time, Harry secretly marries Phyllis and they have a child together, leading to Harry living a double life, shuttling between his two families in different cities.

Harry's secret begins to unravel when he and Eve decide to adopt a child. During the adoption process, a private investigator becomes suspicious and uncovers Harry's bigamy. Confronted with the truth, Harry must face the consequences of his actions and the impact on both of his wives.

"The Bigamist" is notable for its sympathetic portrayal of its characters, avoiding the melodramatic or sensationalist treatment of the subject matter typical of the era. The film explores themes of loneliness, deception, and the complexities of human relationships, with strong performances from the lead actors.
