High Pressure 1932 DVD
"High Pressure" is a pre-Code comedy film from 1932, directed by Mervyn LeRoy. The movie tells the story of Gar Evans (William Powell), a charming but slightly unscrupulous promoter who gets caught up in the world of high-pressure sales tactics during the Great Depression.
Gar Evans is a smooth-talking salesman with big dreams of making it rich. He works for the Grant Soap Company, but his aspirations are much grander. When he learns of a new invention, a gasoline additive called "Ethyl," he sees it as his ticket to success. Gar convinces his boss, Mr. Gaylor (Guy Kibbee), to invest in the product and sends him on a cross-country sales campaign.
However, Gar's plans hit a snag when he falls for Barbara (Evelyn Brent), the daughter of a wealthy industrialist. Barbara's father disapproves of Gar's profession and wants her to marry someone more stable. To win Barbara's hand, Gar must prove himself as a legitimate businessman.
As Gar navigates the cutthroat world of business, he finds himself entangled in a web of deceit, rivalries, and romantic entanglements. With his quick wit and charm, Gar tries to outmaneuver his competitors and win Barbara's heart while staying one step ahead of the law.
